Quality Care, Close to Home Makes for Good Experience

John P.

Being a patient at The Cancer Center has been a good experience for John from the start. Referred by his surgeon, Dr. Steven Sutton, John felt confident in the recommendation to see Dr. Sanjeev Aggarwal for radiation therapy to treat his prostate cancer.

"From the moment I walked through the front door, I felt comfortable,” said John. “I liked Dr. Aggarwal immediately. He really listened to me," he added, noting that all the staff were helpful and professional. "I never had a bad moment through the entire process. The staff kept me informed and treated me with care."

John knows he is lucky to have this resource so close to his home in The Plains. "My brother went through a similar procedure in Illinois, but had to drive much further for treatments. It was an ordeal for him,” said John. "I had a 15-minute drive and was able to continue working, which was important to me."

In addition, the facility itself impressed John. "Walking into a pleasant, comfortable, new facility made the whole process better."

Since finishing treatments in February, John has been feeling great and continues to see Dr. Sutton. "It's good to have the center so close to home and my other doctors," said John. “Dr. Sutton and Dr. Aggarwal work closely together, and I’m really pleased with the care I’ve gotten.”

Team Approach Gives Patient Increased Confidence

Bill K.

When Bill learned that he needed radiation therapy as a follow-up to the brachytherapy he’d received at Georgetown University Hospital, he wanted to weigh his options. He liked the care at Georgetown, but it was a bit of a trip from his home.

He researched The Cancer Center’s staff, services, and technology and was convinced that he could receive equally good care, with an easier commute to the frequent appointments.

Bill consulted with his surgeon and Dr. Aggarwal who explained that a team approach would be used to develop and follow through on his treatment plan. This team approach of The Cancer Center staff working with the other doctors he knew and trusted gave Bill additional confidence in his treatment.

Bill has been pleased with his decision to go to The Cancer Center. “The staff is excellent, highly competent and with a great attitude,” he says. The experienced staff, latest technology, and convenient location helped Bill know that he made the right choice.

Kindness of Cancer Center Staff Makes All the Difference

Debbie T.
Breast Cancer Survivor

When you’re fighting cancer, sometimes the smallest things – like a smiling face – can mean the most. It certainly did for Debbie Thompson. She recalls a time at the cancer center when Tina, her technician, drew a smiley face on her, just lighten the mood a bit.

Debbie was impressed by the friendliness of all the staff at The Cancer Center and at the oncology group, collocated in the same facility. Seeing a friendly face when arriving each day is one thing that makes the center stand out, says Debbie. “At some places, you might feel like you’re just a number. At The Cancer Center, every person knew my name.”

“They’re drawing on you all the time anyway,” says Debbie, “so I said ‘why can’t it be a smiley face’ and that’s what she drew.” This bit of kindness and friendliness went a long way in helping Debbie make it through her treatments. “The staff at The Cancer Center wasn’t seeing me at my best, and it helped that they made some fun of the situation,” she says.

When you’re scared and feeling unsure of what’s going on, says Debbie, this makes all the difference in the world.
